A temporary Post Office counter has opened in Leominster following a four-week closure of the town’s main postal facilities.

The interim service, located at the Leominster Information Centre at 11 Corn Square, officially began operating on September 11. Opening hours have been set from 9:30am to 4:00pm on weekdays, and 9:30am to 1:00pm on Saturdays.

The town was left without a central post office after the previous branch inside the Morrisons Daily on South Street closed on August 15, despite a petition signed by over one thousand local residents and interventions from elected representatives.

Post Office Ltd confirmed the replacement service is managed by experienced postmaster Sunil Gora, who also runs Leominster’s Banking Hub. The counter offers standard postal functions alongside everyday banking access while a long-term solution is arranged.

In a statement, a Post Office spokesperson said: "This is a temporary solution whilst we work towards a permanent solution for Leominster. Everyday Post Office products and services will be available, including postal services and banking services."

Leominster Town Mayor Gill Murdoch welcomed the new arrangement, emphasizing the local authority's commitment to maintaining core facilities in the heart of the community.

Mayor Murdoch said: "Leominster Town Council strongly supports having a Post Office in the town centre and has been working closely with our MP and Post Office Ltd to ensure a temporary arrangement can be delivered until a permanent solution can be established."

North Herefordshire MP Ellie Chowns also expressed gratitude to the organisations involved for getting the branch operational quickly.

Dr Chowns said: "I am aware how vital the Post Office is to so many people in Leominster who rely on it for pensions, banking, and postal services, especially for more elderly residents and those with limited access to transport.

"A temporary service is the right first step, and my priority now will be to continue work with the Post Office to secure a new permanent branch."
